On 6th April, 2004 baby footsteps entered my life and changed the complete meaning of my life. Apart from giving me a new identity it changed my whole outlook on life. It has been a wonderful 8 years of my life and m still discovering new joys (some annoying traits too :) and new facets to the wonderful journey called motherhood. Saee is 8 years old now and one and half years back we added a new bundle of joy to our team. It's been a roller coaster ride (literally) and I loved each and every moment of it. I m really blessed to have a wonderful and supportive husband and two beautiful girls.
Coming back to the cake :). I made a Make-Up kit cake for the birthday girl and she absolutely loved it.
The purse is made of Chocolate Mud Cake (check the recipe here), the make-up supplies are made of homemade modelling chocolate (recipe here) and the base is Victoria Sponge Cake (my all-time favourite). I'll share the recipes and methods of making the purse cake and modelling chocolates in my next post (otherwise this will be a VERY long post).
I made total four sheets for the cake and filled them with chocolate buttercream icing. I needed only three but made one extra for any oops moments (which, thankfully, didn't happen).
The lipstick, eyeliner, eye shadow, nail polish and mini Saee were made two days in advance.
Here's the final presentation.
Victoria Sponge Cake (Chocolate)
This recipe is for one sheet of 10" x 12" cake or one 7"-8" round cake
Ingredients:
Refer Conversions for Cup measurements
130 grams all purpose flour
40 grams natural cocoa powder
170 grams unsalted butter, room temperature
170 grams caster sugar
3 eggs, room temperature
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
Method:
Preheat oven to 200 degree Celsius and place the rack in the center of the oven.
Grease and lightly dust an 8" round cake tin. Set aside.
Sieve the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder and set aside.
Beat the butter and sugar until light and creamy (about 3-4 minutes). Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition (about 30 seconds). Add the vanilla essence.
Add the flour-cocoa mix and milk in 3 additions, starting and ending with flour mix. Beat just until incorporated.
Spoon the batter into the prepared cake tin and bake for 20 minutes or until done (a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake should come out clean).
Remove from the oven and let cool in the tin for 5 minutes. Remove from the tin and let cool completely on a wire rack.
